Save your face from all that makeup!

I get this question all the time

Q:: How do you not break out from all that makeup you wear at school?

A:: Here are some tips for heavy makeup users

For every day makeup always use a primer.
Some primer brands are-- Rimmel, Smashbox, MUFE, MAC,
This creates a barrier over your skin so foundation doesn't seep into your pores

Ok for those heavy makeup users who like a very heavy coverage.

Use Derma shield

This is the heavy duty stuff. Usually actors use this stuff because of the amount of makeup they are putting on their skin. To show you how well this works watch this video.

Cirque Du Soleil inspired

Ok so to get this look I used the fair color in my RCMA Palette, black pencil from wet'n wild and black eyeliner from coastal scents. I used the vibrant pink in the 88 palette and faded it in to the a light pink and orangey/coral color. For the little forehead piece I made I used cardboard then put a layer of pink glitter on it and then glued sequins on top.

Coastal Scents Gel Liner
So I don't think I'm ever getting that black "gel" liner from coastal scents again it dries sooo quick. I used it on this look and so what i did was i scraped some on my spatula and used it from there and if I didn't use it immediately it starts to crumble on the spatula and it just wasn't usable so I had to scrape more off. For the short period I've had the jar I've used a lot. I hear so many reviews on MACS fluid line how fast that dries but mine is fine and it doesn't dry as fast as Coastal scents does. I think I'm going to have to stick with MAC sorry CS.

Coastal Scents HD Foundation Review

Coastal Scents HD Foundation in shades 14, 07, and 01
I bought the lightest shade the middle shade and the darkest shade so I'd be able to mix and get the perfect shade for most people. I tried it on today and I can't say its not amazing or the best foundation I've used. I've gotten a better finish with my MAC Studo Sculpt foundation. I'm going to try different ways in applying it and different amounts to see if it gets any better. The way I like to apply it is I put a small amount on a palette and dip my MAC 109 brush in it. Then I stipple and swirl so I'm not using a lot on my face. It's a light to medium finish. Compared to MUFE's HD foundation I can't say it's the same at all. MUFE's HD is a heavier coverage and it gives you an airbrush finish like face. As I was playing with Coastal Scents HD on my hand it felt like I had to put a good a mount on my skin to make it seem airbrushed like. and So of course HD means it should look great on camera right? I do like how it didn't give me a whitish haze on my face so that's one plus but it still looks like its missing something in the ingredients. I absolutely love my MAC studio sculpt even on camera I have nothing bad to say about it. So all in all Coastal Scents HD Foundation its a good foundation if you want a cheap foundation that gives you a light to medium foundation. I don't exactly know if it's "HD' if you know what I mean. But try it out for your self when they have a sale going on I bought mine when everything on their site was 25% off. If your an NC 40 in MAC the shade 07 should match you.

Coastal Scents Gel liner in True black
It's like anyother gel liner but a when I stuck my spatula in it, it was kind of hard. I had to warm it up back in for with a brush. So it's still a good alternative to MAC fluidline

Wolfe Bros HydroColors

So I've been using Wolfe Bros brand Hydrocolors cakes for a while now, they're similiar to Kryolans aquacolor cakes, Ben Nyes, and Mehrons. I heard rave reviews about this brand and I have to say I love it. The neon palette is comparable to Kryolans UV palette but cheaper! This cost me about 16 dollars and they sell the refills for it also for I think 3 dollars. As you can see I used the Essentials (primary colors) palette quite often. The colors are yellow, dark green, white, blue, black, red. These are great to use as eye shadows also. You have to be fast at blending and may need to blend with powder eyeshadow on top but it makes the shadows very vibrant.

This was a project I had to do in class and the the task was to be an animal. Of course I wanted to push my self and do something hard so I chose a catepillar. To get that vibrant green I mixed the hydrocolors together. It's kind of tough to mix but all you have to do is take your spatula and scrape off dark green, yellow, neon green, and white add the slightest amount of water and mix the colors on a metal palette.

Recent Theatre Looks and Glitter

Our assignment was to be a witch and my inspiration was that blue character (don't remember the name) from Hercules the cartoon. I also just had to add my glitter bow. (Lady Gaga Status.)

Ok so this one has to be my favorite. Our task was to do a full beard and the first person I
thought was was Kimbo Slice. Do I look like him? lol

Keeping Glitter Under Control

Have you ever tried using glitter on your lids but it would get all over your face and clothes? Well heres a trick.
In a small cap or cup put some DUO lash adhesive in it and some glitter. Mix it until its a paste and apply it on your lid with a q-tip or brush. No mess what so ever. It can be a little expensive because Duo can cost any where to 5 to 8 dollars. If its on your body (no eye area) spray area with hairspray and then apply glitter. Hope that helps for the Holiday!

Wedding look and Theatre makeup

Hey gals! So a quick update on school I've finished my beauty and salon class and have moved onto theatre class Debra was my model for my final. Please click on the picture for a larger view. I went with a wedding look and I was very very pleased with the outcome. She looks flawless!

So if you were wondering how different Theatre class is, here are some pictures of what kind of work we do.

I like to call her Trixie. She is 50 years old and still thinks she can work the streets. Her smoking habit has left her with some really bad wrinkle lines.

Scary I know.

This is Trixie and her pimpstress.

A Twist to the Zebra Nails

Recently I've been really into nail designs and this is something I came up with, with the help from a Japanese Nail Art Magazine.

How I did the zebra nail:::
1. With Black nail polish draw the twisty design you want first. let it dry a little bit
2. With White nail polish fill in the empty spaces. let that fully dry (You will have to be very careful)
3. With a thin brush draw in the black zebra stripes on top of the white
4. With a thin brush dip in silver/gray glitter nail polish and follow the edges where the black paint meets the white paint

How I did the all black nails::
1. Paint the nail all black
2. With a thin brush dip in silver/gray glitter nail polish and make 2 different curvy lines.

Zombieland Premiere!

Wednesday was a very unexpected day for me. Well first I went to makeup class and after class me and my friend checked out the zombieland premiere. This was our first time going to a premiere so we weren't really expecting much except pushing, shoving and waiting. When were got there a security was recruiting people to be zombies for the premiere. All you had to do was get your face painted by their makeup artist (who weren't very good) and stand behind the wall near the "black" carpet. I was so up for it and so was my friend so I was what the heck it gets us closer to the stars. Then they announced to us that because we helped them we get to watch the premiere with the stars. I was so speechless. It was the most amazing experiece ever. I thought the stars would be sectioned off in the theatre but know they roam around and practically are sitting with us. There are a lot more photos but I was too lazy to upload all.

The professional zombies that were brought in to walk the carpet.

Us before being zombies
I'm not going to say what school these makeup artist came from but they could've done a better job in 5 mins. Plus I got fake blood under my contact.

Rob Dyrdek: He's just as funny as he is in his show

MUFE HD Elixir

Price:38
So I've heard all about this product when it first came out and I initally thought it was for people with dry skin but nope its perfect for everyone! It claims to hydrate and brighten the skin and it does just that. I'm an oily skin girl so anything that says hydrates I don't even bother with because at the end of the day I'll have enough oil to fry chicken (ok I kid, but you get the picture). I got a sample of this at sephora so I said what the heck I'll try it. My face looked crazy flawless. It didn't make me anymore oily than I already am so it's a keeper. I used the elixir in class on my classmates and it looked AMAZING on them. For perfect looking skin I suggest using your moisturizer first then the HD Elixir and finally your Primer. It's best to apply this product with your hands or a synthetic brush. It is pricey so get a sample at your local sephora and try it out, it'll last you a while.

Before:After ...Brownie love

Client: Maggie (the sister)
Hair and makeup by me.
I did a light brown smokey since it was just a dinner out with some friends. This was definitely rushed. I had 30 mins to do hair and makeup. She was very happy and that was all that mattered =)

Shanghai Goodies!

My sister went to Shanghai with a friend and brought back a whole lot of goodies that I wasn't really expecting. This is just my batch she has another batch for her and for friends.
Mini OPI nailpolish
You see them here in the states but they come in packs of colors that are already set. She actually got to pick these herself. I have to say though they don't compare to the normal sized ones. The brush causes lot of streaks.
Everyone knows I have an obsession with green tea products and these green tea Pockys were my FAVV. The Green tea Halls were a little wierd to me but I'd still eat it =)

This is comparable to fix +. A little bit more refreshing
And this is where we hit the mother load. I wore the dramatic lashes and I LOVED THEM. $16 for both boxes you can't beat that price.
Makeup School Update: I've been in school for a month and I've learned a lot. I'm definitely going broke buying tons of makeup. I think it's time to do a FOTD dontcha think. Oh and I enrolled in hair class so I can do updos for weddings and such.
